SUE Barrow is correct in saying that discrimination on grounds of chronological age is alive in Swindon (EA, July 8). We have found plenty of examples not least in public services.
In employment it is still legal and, although the government is consulting now, unfortunately we have to wait until 2006 for legislation that will force a change. In the meantime, enlightened employers follow Age Positive guidance and welcome age diversity in their workforce. Others don't and we can only point the finger and hope for different attitudes.
Age Concern has been campaigning for change and will continue to work to Break the Age Barrier. We would like more people to join our campaign. You can find out more by visiting our website at www.ageconcern. org.uk and follow the links. Or if Adver readers write or phone me, I will send them information.
