PHONE users can recycle their old models at a designated site at the Barnfield Road depot.
Independent research suggests there are some 92,400 unused mobile phones in homes across the borough.
These phones are made up of 13 kg of silver and 2.8 kg of gold and overall weigh 17 tonnes. They can cause pollution to the environment if they are disposed of incorrectly.
Swindon Council is to step up its campaign to urge people to recycle their waste by embarking on a series of school visits to promote sustainable waste management issues and the extension of recycling rounds, planned for later in the summer.
