AS a long standing resident of Chickerell Road I am always in favour of utilising this open area between the Walcot and Park North estates. It needs to be used for everyone's benefit.

However, I can not understand why the Caribbean Festival organisers put at least five huge discos (and I mean huge) next to each other, each trying to drown the others in such a small area.

The noise could be heard at Cavendish Square and Nythe estate, it was horrendous for those of us that actually live next to the field.

Did those concerned not realise that with such bedlam, none of the music could actually be heard properly.

In the morning there was a very good steel band playing but they were literally drowned out by the idiots playing all of the discos at the same time.

I know that we must expect music at a festival of this type but a little thought, consideration, planning and limitation to the number of discos and decibels emitted would not have been wasted.

The travelling fairgrounds that regularly use this area are famous for making a lot of noise with their music and generators etc.

It is all part and parcel of running a fairground but they are amateurs compared to the Caribbean Festival.

The difference is that fairground owners understand that they are on a housing estate and, although they make noise, try to control their impact on the residents. They even clean up the litter and rubbish before they depart.

The Caribbean festival organisers however seem to be at the other end of the spectrum. They do not seem to be so bothered about anyone else or their effect on those of us living in the area.

I look forward to a response.
