FINISHING touches are being made to the newly-soundproofed Selwyn Hall in Box, which was banned from playing loud music last summer.

Sound experts from rock star Peter Gabriel's Box studios were originally brought in to find ways of reducing loud noise, which was banned from the village hall last July after a string of complaints from residents living in nearby Valens Terrace.

The hall has been undergoing building work costing £24,000 over the last three months to correct the problem.

Windows in the north-facing wall have been bricked up and new fire exits installed along with a noise inhibitor and extractor fan system.

The final stage was to paint the hall from ceiling to floor.

Last summer the members of Selwyn Hall management committee were told they could be fined up to £20,000 or imprisoned for six months if they allowed loud music to be played in the hall.

The committee had to cancel dozens of events as a result.

The fully soundproofed hall should be ready for bookings within the next few weeks.
