HUNDREDS of triathletes braved the heat on Sunday to turn out in force for the annual Winchester to Salisbury Mitre TRI event.
Rob Pears, representing Bath Amphibians, was first to finish in a time of 1:53.32.
He completed the swimming section in 9.36 and the cycling leg in 1:04.38, before turning in a time of 39.18 in the running section.
His total was almost a minute better than Andy Ballard of Southampton Tri Club who enjoyed the same cushion from Winchester-based James Hudson.
Numerous teams of firefighters also took part in the event.
Entries are now being accepted for the popular Salisbury 5-4-3-2-1 event on Sunday, August 10.
Taking in five rivers, four hills, three large country estates, two castles and a cathedral, the contest boasts courses ranging from 10km to 40km to suit all members of the family.

The sixth annual Clarendon Way marathon takes place on Sunday, October 5. The event starts at Winchester at 10.30am, while a half-marathon gets under way at Broughton on the same day from 12pm. Ring race director Paul Elderkin on 01962 622465 for more details.
