AN Amesbury pensioner died when his car was involved in a three-vehicle collision on the A36 near Codford on Monday afternoon.
The man, whose identity has not yet been released because relatives are thought to be abroad on holiday, was travelling towards Warminster in his Ford Focus and was near the roadside cafe when the accident happened.
A line of vehicles travelling towards Salisbury slowed down near the cafe entrance, when there was a collision involving an articulated lorry and a van.
It is believed the lorry then swerved across the road into the path of the Ford Focus which was pushed along the road, through a hedge and ended up against a tree. The lorry also left the road and came to rest in a field.
Police said the Amesbury pensioner died at the scene. Police later arrested the 37-year-old lorry driver.
