CHIPPENHAM Town manager Tommy Saunders will have to juggle his budget as he decides which new faces he will sign on for next season.

Among the trialists who featured against newly-promoted Third Division side Yeovil Town on Monday were defenders Gareth Hall and Chris Collins, midfielder Neil Thomas and striker Dean Birkby.

But Saunders said he will need to make some difficult decisions when choosing who he keeps and who he lets go.

"Our trialists all want to join us," he said. "They wouldn't be here otherwise.

"I will have to make a tough decision on Chris Collins because Simon Charity has not put a foot wrong.

"I haven't got the money to sign them all so we will have to make some decisions on that front."

However, one relief from the headache of who and who not to bring in was the team's 0-0 draw with Conference champions Yeovil on Monday night.

Saunders said he was particularly delighted with his players' high fitness levels, work-rate and determination. "We played very well, we defended well and were very difficult to beat," said Saunders. "It was a good game of football and I was really pleased with the result."

Chippenham went into the match with five key players unavailable, and Saunders believes their return will provide a big boost and create more competition for places.

"At the moment we are missing Martin Paul, Colin Towler, Tom Gould, Steve Brown and Adie Mings. If you bring them back into the squad I think we've got a good little side."

Paul returned from holiday late on Monday night and he is hoping Towler, Gould and Mings will recover from operations in time for the kick off on August 16.
