MEMBERS of the Royal British Legion gathered at Malmesbury School for the rededication ceremony of the First World War memorial on Monday.
The memorial was moved to a courtyard within the school site at Corn Gastons 18 months ago when the school relocated from Filands.
Gordon Williams, a maths teacher at the school, said the ceremony was very moving.
"It was just the right tone. It was sombre without being oppressive and it was good to remember the fallen," he said.
The ceremony was held by Canon Roy Blake and relatives of those whose names are engraved on the memorial attended.
Among them was Colin Lockstone who went to remember his great uncle, Sharland Lockstone.
There was a minute's silence and a wreath was laid by the Air Training Corps, who provided a guard of honour.
A group of students from the school council also spoke about the history of the war memorial.
The idea to rededicate the monument came from Derek Tilney, chairman of the Malmesbury branch of the Royal British Legion.
"It's important these men are not forgotten," he said.
