Ref.10262THERE were red lips and stained fingers galore at Crudwell at the weekend, when the village held its 16th annual Strawberry Fayre.
Attracting more than 2,500 visitors from miles around, the two-day event saw an incredible 500lb of strawberries devoured and several frantic trips out by organisers, to get more supplies.
"It was a wonderful weekend," said one of the organisers Judith White. "The weather was unbelievable and because of the huge demand, several of us had to make quick trips to local supermarkets to stock up on more strawberries and ice-cream."
Also proving popular with visitors were the craft fair and display of the church's new hassocks.
And on Saturday evening the party continued, with Jazz Jiants, who dished up a feast of popular music.
"Around 70 people stayed on to watch the band and sitting back in the cooler evening listening to their music was the perfect end to the day," said Mrs White.
She also paid tribute to the many people who gave their services free to make sure the weekend went with a swing. "It was easily the most popular Strawberry Fayre to date," she added.
