CORSHAM defeated Chippenham on Thursday night to win the Jack Wilcox Trophy and avenge last year's final defeat at the hands of their local rivals.
After losing last year's final in humiliating fashion, Corsham were determined to put up a better fight this year and an impressive knock of 46 by Steve Copland helped guide them to victory.
Corsham elected to bat first, and raced to 153 for six from their allotted 20 overs. A quick fire 37 by Mark Coxon gave Corsham the early advantage and his work was carried on by Copland.
In a surprise move off-spinner Craig Chaplin opened the bowling for Corsham and this proved successful as Chippenham failed to cope with the turn he was getting. Chaplin finished with figures of two for 14 from his five overs.
The only resistance came from opener John Rumble who batted well to make 23 before being bowled by Toby Sharpe. Rumble was one of only Chippenham players to reach double figures as his side were bowled out for 84.
All of Corsham's bowling attack contributed to the victory but the pick of them was Sharpe, whose figures were three for 21 and Paul Clifford, who finished with three for 17.
