ALL the latest blockbuster films could soon be showing in Calne off the back of a lorry.
The town council has pledged £10,000 towards a state of the art mobile cinema, with a hundred seats, air conditioning and Dolby surround sound.
The Cinemobile Project, which is being organised by Purbeck Film Charitable Trust, will be based in Dorset, and plans to fund itself with contributions from local authorities. Calne Town Council is the first authority to contribute to the scheme.
It will operate in rural areas across Dorset and in parts of Wiltshire, and is expected to come to Calne once a fortnight, where it will present three showings, of at least two different films.
A welcome group will be set up to organise ushering and marketing at the Cinemobile and will also be responsible for the sale of sweets and drinks at the door. Calne Town Council wants to involve community groups which would share the profits.
Calne's community development officer Mark Wilkins, said: "I'm thrilled because people will no longer have to travel to see a film.
He praised the Young Persons' Town Council which first made contact with the Purbeck Film Charitable Trust.
Mr Wilkins said the project could be up and running by next Easter. He said he was not sure where the Cinemobile would be parked in the town.
Calne's Film Society which was set up by the YPTC, has been presenting films in the town hall since Christmas.
