Ref.10186DERRY Hill Scout Group, which was in danger of folding until Scout leader Gary Lunn stepped in two years ago, now has a new home.
Mr Lunn and his dedicated band have worked tirelessly for months to transform the village's dilapidated Scout hut, which had deteriorated from years of neglect. But this month the revamped hut, complete with new roof, newly repaired floorboards and replacement glass panels, was officially opened.
The youngest members of the group untied a ceremonial reef knot placed across the door.
Mr Lunn said: "Initial hopes of transforming the hut within a modest budget were dashed by heavy rains in April and May, which revealed how much damage the roof had sustained and how much work was required to completely re-felt it and replace rotting floor timbers.
"But using the group's charitable status we were able to apply for a tax rebate, which we used to cover the extra cost."
The group was out of action for 12 years. Now it is thriving with 50 members in its Beaver Colony and Cub pack.
