FORMER Devizes School pupil Jonathan Lucas has won a first-class honours degree at the end of his master of physics course at Cambridge University.
Mr Lucas, who captained the team from Jesus College, Cambridge on BBC's University Challenge last year, has already found himself a job as a patents attorney, scrutinising patents applications to make sure they are original and scientifically feasible, at a major London company.
Before he takes up the job, he is enjoying an extended holiday in Mexico.
His father David, former head of music at Devizes School, said: "There were only four firsts in the course in the whole university, so Jonathan's mother and I are absolutely delighted.
"It just goes to show that you don't need to go to an independent school to get the quality of teaching that sends you to Oxbridge."
