Swindon soldiers will take part in a ceremonial parade in Hounslow on Tuesday to commemorate a famous British battle victory.

The men, who are members of the Royal Gloucestershire, Berkshire and Wiltshire Regiment will be marking the Duke of Wellington's success at the Battle of Salamanca in July, 1812.

The Battalion has just completed a six months tour of duty in Northern Ireland where it carried out duties at Drumcree and Belfast during the controversial marching season.

The men are now looking forward to resuming their public guard duties from barracks in Hounslow in London and are also preparing for overseas training exercises in Malaysia and Kenya.

Spokesman Captain Matt Baker said the regiment will become the Spearhead Land Element for the Army next summer before being posted to Germany at the end of the year.

The Battle of Salamanca, during the Napoleonic Peninsular war was regarded as Welling-ton's most impressive military success against the French.
