CROWDS lined the streets of Wilton in brilliant sunshine on Saturday to watch the annual carnival procession wind its way through the ancient capital of Wessex.
What the procession might have lacked in numbers was more than made up for by enthusiasm - not only of residents young and old, who donned fancy dress costumes to take part in the parade, but of the throngs of people on the pavements.
Two floats and a host of fancy dress entrants ranging from organisations in the town to individual families provided a noisy and colourful start to the afternoon's festivities. The procession was led by carnival queen Louise Tidmarsh (28) and her attendants, 11-year-old Yasmin Kerr and 12-year-old Elizabeth Kinsey.
Behind them were the Wessex Military Band, the highly entertaining Majorwrecks and dozens of walking fancy dress characters.
The procession began in Wishford Road and made its way to the Castle Lane recreation ground, where an afternoon packed with fun awaited the crowds.
