CONGRATULATIONS to Tim Benson and his crew on the successful completion of another carnival in Wroughton, a great parade and entertainment in the Weir Field were a credit to the hard-working committee.

I have heard at first hand about the small minority who were not in favour of the charge made for entrance to the event.

To these people I say, get real, a charge of £1 for the show in the afternoon and £2 for the evening was peanuts to the amount of money most people would spend to buy a pint or packet or cigarettes and to see the show in the evening would cost 10 or 15 times that amount if it was held anywhere else.

Having retired from business I know only too well the difficulties of obtaining sponsorship for such an event, and the amount of time and energy involved is tremendous, so all credit to the committee in keeping the cost so low.

I am an OAP and could have had free entry, but I, and many others like me, chose to pay our £1 which gave us access to the evening show as well, and I do not know of anywhere else I could have enjoyed so much for such a small cost.

Appreciate the amount of work and commitment that goes into these events, back it wholeheartedly with donations or help of any kind, and perhaps the long suffering committee members will continue to work hard for you, the people of Wroughton.

To the whingers I would say, you don't have to live in Wroughton, and you don't have to see the events of the day. Go to Swindon where the cost of petrol for your car or the cost of the bus fare far exceeds the entrance fee to our annual event.
