FUNDRAISERS proved they were a cut above the rest in a hair-raising idea to raise cash for cancer charities.

Kate Lochiel from Trowbridge, Liz Galley and her two daughters Roxanne, 14, and Lucia, 10, from Melksham, each had 12 inches of hair chopped off for charity at Trevor and Johns hairdressers in Trowbridge.

All the hair goes to US based charity Locks of Love. which make natural wigs for children with cancer and leukaemia.

Kate Lochiel said: "We all look so different now with short hair but it is a small price to pay if we can help these children.

"We saw what the charity could do on a television programme and knew we had to do something."

It takes 15 locks of hair to make a child's wig and June Bull of Steeple Ashton helped out with over 40 inches of her own braided hair.

The group also raised over £400 for Cancer and Leukaemia in Children who help sufferers in Britain.

Cash donations were made by D & D Taxis in Trowbridge and from two businesses in Devizes.
