LETTERS SPECIAL: WE most definitely need to keep the Waterloo line as it is the only direct service from Trowbridge, otherwise people have to go to Bath or Westbury.

The Underground from Waterloo is just as good as other London terminals also one is on the direct route to the Eurostar. We must keep this train.

PJ TAYLOR

Trowbridge.

IT was with alarm that I heard that after May next year, when Wales and Borders Trains' contract expires, there is a possibility that the service from Wales to Waterloo will be discontinued.

With pressure to get cars off the roads, and people on trains, this would be madness, especially since the service is well used, and many of us without cars anyway.

Please keep in mind that this is an important direct link to London for us in the west.

I AM appalled to think that the closing of the Waterloo rail service via Bradford on Avon could be considered. It is such a wonderful, popular facility, one that I use often and greatly appreciate.

Please, Mr Murrison, do fight for the cause.

PLEASE save the Waterloo-west Wiltshire train service. I like it very much and am sure that it is well subscribed. The introduction of the service was a rare moment of progress for the railways let's not waste it.

S PURKISS

Warminster.

I WRITE as a life-long fan of railways and would be very sad to see a cut in our services.

My husband is disabled and enjoys a visit to London. If he had to change in Salisbury this would make the journey far too arduous, requiring ramps and a wheelchair.

Our two sons also use this line, and do so in preference to driving by car. In fact, they have both given up their own vehicles, since this service started. Please maintain this lifeline, it is an excellent service to Waterloo.

M PURKISS

Warminster.

We have used this service a number of times both to go to London, to use Eurostar; my daughter to go to Wimbledon and in the opposite direction to visit another daughter via Shrewsbury. It is always full and on more than one occasion we have been unable to travel because it was already fully booked.

Far from taking it off, we have always wondered why it was not four instead of two coaches.

If this service does not pay then no service can.

MR AND MRS JA YOUNG

Corsley.

This is a popular train, and any train that helps to take cars off the road must surely be a good thing.

I hope that one of the four train operating companies that is bidding for the franchise will keep this train going.
