COULD I, through your letters' page, say how fortunate we are to have a river running through our town and on through to the park and the Biss meadows.
We often walk from The Shires to the library then through the park to Polebarn Road. It's so relaxing and we watch the ducks, moorhens and have even seen the kingfisher. I'm sorry to complain but we walked through this morning and there were more shopping trolleys than we usually see in the river, and the amount of plastic bottles bouncing on the waterfall is incredulous.
That is only annoying but what is really dangerous is the amount of blackberry shoots all along the pathway, dangerous and annoying enough for us, but what is really frightening is when mums push their little ones along there, some brambles are just the height to catch the children's eyes. I don't know whose responsibility the river bank is, i.e. Water Board or council, so I hope the responsible ones will read this letter. The brambles were cut back in early spring, but obviously they need doing more this time of the year.
But as I say we are so lucky to have such beauty, it's a pity that it is gradually being destroyed.
