RESIDENTS are being given their say on plans to regenerate the heart of Trowbridge.

Ideas put forward as part of the Vision for Trowbridge project will be on display at the West Wilts Show next week.

Results of the public consultation will be published in September when consultants employed to oversee the project will unveil overall suggestions for 60 acres of the town centre, and more detailed master plans for some key sites.

The consultants, who have been employed by the project partners led by West Wiltshire District Council, have been holding meetings with community groups and organisations to find out how the people of Trowbridge want the town to develop.

Consultant Jeff Bishop said: "This is a crazy timescale we are working to, but it should not be a problem.

"The most interesting part of any development study like this is that you get two extremes.

"At first people don't tend to believe that any of the ideas and plans are possible, but since the forums and consultations we have held, there is a really exciting shift in people's attitudes in Trowbridge.

"We are beginning to raise people's ambitions."

The concepts created so far can be viewed in the Civic Hall on Thursday and Friday, with workshops for people to take part in.

Mr Bishop said there is the possibility real results could be seen by the end of the year.

He said: "If other developers will work with us on this we are hoping that some of them will want to crack on with developments.

"There is therefore potential for some of the schemes getting to the planning permission stage by the end of the year.

Students from three Trowbridge Schools are helping with the preparations.

Youngsters from John of Gaunt School, St Augustine's Catholic College, and Clarendon School, joined architects and developers yesterday for a day of brainstorming.

The students are creating a 3D model of how they want parts of the town to look.
