Ref. 27082SCHOOLCHILDREN joined council staff to clean up a meadow in the heart of Trowbridge and make it more attractive to wildlife.
Three children from Salter class at Paxcroft School wrote to West Wiltshire District Council asking for help to clean up a pond in Biss Meadow Country Park, so a pair of swans nesting there could raise their young in safety.
Catherine Mowat, west Wiltshire wildlife officer, said: "The clean-up was a big success, and if the area is cleaner then people will think twice about leaving rubbish there. Hopefully less rubbish will mean more species of birds and butterflies will go to the meadow."
Staff from nearby Tesco helped and said they are planning a new security system for trolleys, so that they don't get stolen and pushed into the River Biss.
