Having read yet another article criticising the Great Western Hospital (EA, July 11) I felt I should write in its defence.

I recently had to spend time there due to a collapsed lung and I received a service second to none.

I did spend some time on a trolley bed (one of the complaints highlighted) but this was a necessity due to my condition which meant I needed to be taken back and forth to X-ray.

At all times I had access to an emergency alarm, power sockets and was checked on at frequent intervals. I was unable to find fault with any aspect of the hospital or the staff, even the food could not be faulted.

It is about time people stopped complaining about whether they are treated on this bed or that.

The important thing is that they are seen and given the best possible care.
