Ref. 13797/2A SPEED camera on the A350 at Lacock has been torched by vandals in a late-night attack.

The camera has been rendered out of action by the fire vandals who put a tyre around the base and set it alight in an attack on Tuesday night.

Two fire crews from Chippenham were called to put out the blaze but the camera and film inside were ruined.

There has been a spate of camera attacks across the UK in recent months with groups of vandals travelling the length and breadth of the country to put them out of action.

Other cameras, worth in the region of £24,000 each, have been firebombed and smashed-up in similar attacks across England.

Earlier this year a camera was torched near Batheaston.

Police have shrouded the camera in police tape but have no firm leads to chase-up.

Witnesses who saw anyone acting suspiciously in the vicinity of the camera around the time of the arson should contact Wilt-shire police.
