ANDY KING knows 10 of the 11 starters he would like to face Sheffield Wednesday on August 9, but has challenged everyone in his squad to make filling in that first teamsheet as tough as possible.

Eight summer arrivals mean the Town boss has competition in every position a far cry from pre-season preparations 12 months ago.

His 'ideal' starting eleven is almost mapped out but there is plenty of time for others to put themselves in contention for the Owls' visit.

King said: "I certainly know what my '10' would be in terms of the starting eleven and I have an idea of the shape that I want to adopt.

"There is one area that I have to look at in terms of the 11th individual but that's only a small 'problem' if you like.

"However, just because I have a picture of the side I want to start with does not mean everything is set in stone.

"I am open to suggestion and persuasion based on what I see in the forthcoming games."

The manager feels the difference this year is that the squad is truly Andy King's squad.

He said: "Last year, I had inheritance issues. There were players in the squad that were not of my choosing.

"I had people who were not in my plans, nor ever likely to be, and that stopped me building the squad in the way I wanted. That is no longer the case."

As for further additions, King admits it is going to be 'difficult' to accommodate any further players, including triallists.

He said: "I have used up the budget. I just hope I've used it up wisely."

Of the triallists currently at the club, both defender Ben Martin and ex-Newcastle United midfielder Kevin Dixon were expected to figure in the Town side making the trip to Buckingham this afternoon.

The bulk of the side will be made up of the youngsters who drew 0-0 at Witney on Thursday although Brian Howard, Jon Stevenson and new signing Rhys Evans could also feature in the match at Ford Meadow (3pm).

Buckingham can be contacted on 01280 816257.

THE Swindon Town open day takes place at the County Ground tomorrow.

Gates open at 11am and there will be the chance to watch the players train as well as enjoying a tour of the dressing rooms.
