Ref. 25800-24RETIRING TEACHERS: YOUNGSTERS at Highworth Warneford school might be breathing a sigh of relief at Sam Foxton's departure.
The deputy headteacher who retires this week was responsible for discipline at the secondary school.
Mr Foxton, 60, went to Highworth from Lancashire in 1975 when the old Warne-ford Secondary Modern became a comp-rehensive.
He started at the school as head of maths and was appointed deputy head in 1981
Mr Foxton, 60, lives in Cricklade where he is married to Jane and has two children, Amy and Thomas.
He said: "I did not regret the passing of corporal punishment one bit.
"There were some pupils it worked with and some it didn't .
"While I was required to administer it on occasion, it was a very unpleasant thing to do.
"I have had great times here and I will miss the people."
Mr Foxton says he has many interests and looks forward to spending his retirement walking in the Lake District and furthering his love of art and history.
