SWINDON CANCER APPEAL: Motorists on the M4 will have a chance to help the Swindon Cancer Appeal.
Members of Marlborough and District Rotary Club are preparing to descend on the motorway's Membury Services complete with charity collection boxes.
Gordon Spiller, the club's vice president, met appeal manager Graziella Campisano to stock up on the Macmillan Cancer Relief boxes.
Mr Spiller, 62, who joined the Rotary Club four years ago, said: "Macmillan is such a worthwhile charity. One of our chaps had cancer and died a while back and we have collected for Macmillan ever since.
"We will split the donations between our other charities, which include helping the elderly, youngsters and people with polio, but Macmillan gets the biggest chunk.
"We are keeping our fingers crossed for nice weather as people seem to be more generous when the sun is shining."
Twenty-two volunteers will take it in turns to stand outside the services' main entrances on both the east and westbound carriages.
They will be in place from 7am until 5pm on Saturday August 9.
Graziella, 26, said: "It's an extremely creative and imaginative way to help the Swindon Cancer Appeal.
"I hope people look out for the collectors and dig deep to help the appeal when they stop off from their long journeys.
"Well done to the Marlborough Rotary, and keep your ideas coming in. They are fantastic."
Meanwhile darts players from Marlborough Town Football Club are organising a fundraising car boot sale at the football ground in Elcot Lane, Marlboro-ugh, on August 3.
Just last month, members of three teams raised £400 for the appeal by holding a beetle drive.
Organisers are charging £5 per car and £10 per van for the sale. Gates open for sellers at 8am, and the public will be allowed in from 9am until around 2pm.
A fete is also being planned for the day, with a barbecue, bouncy castle and raffle.
The appeal's target is to raise £600,000 in three years to pay for two Macmillan nurses and a consultant in palliative care for Swindon.
If anyone wants to reserve a space at the car boot sale they should call 01672 515958.
