Angler Mick awaits record confirmation
SALISBURY Angling Club could very well have a new rudd record following the capture of a massive 2lb 12.5oz rudd from the club's Wellow Lake.
Captor Mick Keynes is eagerly awaiting ratification of his fish which, if approved, beats the existing record by more than six ounces.
The big rudd was one of several highlights recorded by anglers during the last week.
Waldens Farm Fishery's barbel record now stands at 6lb 4oz after Guy Turner used float-fished sweetcorn to catch a bag of chub and roach followed by the biggest barbel yet caught from Waldens.
John Butterworth fished Deacons Lake in a five-hour session using a quivertip with corn over pellet loose feed and caught more than 100lb of carp.
Across at Witherington Farm Fishery, Saturday's open match saw massive weights of carp come to the nets.
The afternoon and evening match was won by Lee Woodhouse with 111lb 10oz while S. Mayo was second with 98lb 4oz and Paul Barnard third with 92lb 6oz.
The carp came from the Inner Snake.
On Cottage Lake on Sunday Brian Trim won Warminster and District AC's match with 95lb 14oz.
Pleasure anglers have been catching huge bags from all lakes at Witherington with many carp into double figures, some touching the 20lb mark.
All lakes at Waldens Farm are fishing well with bags of good roach, chub, skimmers and chub although the big carp have gone off the feed during the hot days preferring evening or night feeding.
Typical bags up to 60lb or 70lb a sitting from Monks Lake and Abbots Lake.
Harnham Kingfishers held an evening match at Witherington Farm last week with 24 young anglers taking part.
The under 12's section was won by Dale Evans with 10lb, Ben Cooper was second with 8lb and Reuben Hodson-Pearce was third with 5lb 10oz.
The 12-16 group was won by Darryl Mayers with 47lb 6oz, Gareth Mayers runner-up with 38lb 10oz and Ed Purvis was third with 27lb 10oz.
Salisbury Angling Club held its first match of the season at Wellow Lakes on Sunday and Steve Trevett won from the rudd lake with 20lb 8oz. Bill Davis was in second place fishing the carp lake and bringing in 13lb 4oz made up of three carp.
Pleasure anglers fishing the Avon are finding plenty of chub and a few barbel between Fordingbridge and Ringwood but the middle reaches are proving difficult - plenty of big fish rolling but not interested in baits.
