ORTHOPAEDIC WALK: Money from the walk will form part of an ongoing fundraising campaign to ensure that staff at the hospital are able to use the most up-to-date equipment.
The Great Western Hospital's Evolution Appeal was launched in September 2001 in anticipation of the move from Princess Margaret Hospital to new premises.
The aim of the appeal was to raise £2.5m from the community to upgrade or replace ageing medical equipment.
And donations from members of the public and businesses have already reached £1.8m which has been matched by £8m from the Government.
Among the items of medical equipment bought from money raised in the appeal are a £135,000 cardiac ultrasound unit and five examination trolleys for the ear, nose and throat department.
Money from the walk will pay for equipment that the hospital wouldn't be able to afford from its NHS budget.
