POSTMAN Phillip Burry, whose bicycle was in collision with a car in Marshfield Road, Chippenham, last Wednesday afternoon, is back at home in Plantation Road after six days in hospital.
The 56-year-old former retained firefighter, was cycling home from Chippenham Sorting Office at about 1pm when he was involved in the accident.
Mr Burry suffered a fractured leg, shattered cheekbone and broken ribs in the accident and was taken by ambulance to Bath Royal United Hospital.
Mr Burry, who now faces many weeks off work, said he has been touched by many messages from well-wishers, including his colleagues at the Sorting Office.
He was also full of praise for his treatment at the Royal United.
Marshfield Road was closed for several hours while the Corsa, which was impaled on the railings of a house, was removed. Investigators are still looking into the cause of the accident.
