SWINDON CANCER APPEAL: Circus fans will be rolling up to the big top this summer and helping the Swindon Cancer Appeal at the same time.
The Evening Advertiser's appeal has 200 reduced priced tickets for the magical delights of Billy Smart's Circus.
The famous show, which has been delighting audiences for almost 50 years, is being brought to Westcott Recreation Ground, on Wootton Bassett Road, in September.
Billy Smart's New World Circus began in 1946 when the showman known to his family and staff as "the guvnor" bought a big top and added circus performances to his funfair as an extra attraction.
The show soon became a hit with children and adults alike.
Billy Smart made BBC TV history when the channel's first- ever colour programme was broadcast in 1967, and television shows continued as a Christmas tradition long after regular touring ceased in 1971.
TV audiences peaked at 21 million, which is a huge figure even by today's standards, and earned a prestigious Silver Camera Award.
Now Swindon families, couples and friends can once again enjoy the thrill of the circus.
Striking costumes and atmospheric lighting add power to the two-hour production, and a mix of traditional and contemporary circus skills appeal to audiences of all ages.
Tickets normally sell for between £10 to £20 for adults, but Evening Advertiser readers can snap them up for £5 each, or two for £8. Every penny will go to the appeal.
Tickets, for the performance at 7.30pm on September 9, are available from reception at the Advertiser office at 100 Victoria Road, Old Town.
Macmillan Cancer Relief will also hold a collection on the night and will be on site with goodies for sale.
Appeal manager Graziella Campisano said: "This is such a wonderful way to raise money for our appeal. You can't get better than having fun and helping to raise money for charity.
"I used to love going to the circus when I was little. It's the sort of entertainment that appeals to young and old.
"Billy Smart's Circus has such appeal and acclaim. The tickets are a real bargain.
"It's going to be a lot of fun."
