NEW Warminster Town manager Chris Taylor will have to put his faith in youth this season as he plans to turn the club's fortunes around but he says his previous coaching experience will make him the ideal man for the job.
Taylor helped coach the Bristol City academy side three years ago and after watching some of these players, such as Danny Coles and Joe Burnell, go on to represent City's first team he is hoping that he can have the same effect on Warm-inster's youngsters.
He said: "I really enjoyed my time at Bristol City and some of the players I had the pleasure to work with were exceptional. Danny Coles in particular has become a top-class defender and I hope to pass on some of my experience to the lads."
The 32-year-old was Warminster's reserve team manager before leaving the club last January but has now rejoined as manager after the dismissal of Andy Crabtree and is under no illusion of the task ahead.
He said: "Warminster Town are not a Wiltshire League club and my long-term aim has to be getting them back into the Screwfix league where they belong.
"I am realistic however and with the current state of the club's finances I am looking to this season as being one of consolidation and one in which we can look to develop the promising youngsters we have at the club.
"I will be happy with a top 10 finish and delighted with a top five finish. I expect to be challenging for promotion within the next two or three seasons."
Despite this being Taylor's first managerial post he has a list of credentials which would suggest the Wiltshire League club have appointed the right man. He holds his UEFA B coaching badge and has also spent four years at the club playing in the reserves.
He said: "I know most of the lads as I used to coach a lot of them when they were playing at under 16 level. We got on well then and they know how I like to do things so hopefully it won't take them long to re-adjust to my way of working.
"Pre-season has got off to a good start and the lads are looking sharp and happy to be back. I am on the brink of bringing in a young keeper from Bristol and after that everything will be done and dusted and ready for kick-off."
Taylor admits he has no choice but to rely on youth as Warminster just cannot compete financially with other clubs in the area.
He said: "We have already lost a couple of players this season, Jason Guy has moved on to Downton and Tom Welsh has left for Westbury, and we simply can't afford to bring players in to replace them.
"Our youth set-up is strong here and at the moment it is a case of youth being the only way forward. Players like Lee Davidson (left-back) and Craig Lewis (striker) have already played a few games for the first team and we will be looking to them to consolidate their places.
