ROMAN revellers poured into Church Street in Bradford on Avon on Saturday for the annual street party.

The theme marked the recent discovery of a Roman mosaic on the St Laurence School playing fields. Everyone joined in the spirit, with fundraisers dragging chariots and archaeological students donning togas and wreaths.

The party raised £700 for Bradford on Avon Preservation Trust, and trust staff quickly sold out of T-shirts featuring the mosaic.

John and Annette Seekings organised the event from their home in Church Street.

Mrs Seekings said despite a smaller crowd than previous years they were pleased with how much they raised. "Restaurants from all over the town set up stalls and sold food, which was very popular," she said.

Elsewhere in the town the Woolley Street Festival was in full swing outside The George pub. Entertainment included a tractor pull and live bands throughout the afternoon.

The highlight was a performance from internationally renowned jazz pianist Jason Rubello who took to the stage with two members of Bradford on Avon band BlackBud. He proved so popular revellers abandoned plans to join the street party and stayed on to enjoy themselves.
