FIREFIGHTERS in Trowbridge are getting their hands on state of the art life saving equipment thanks to the wife of one of their late colleagues.

Julie Flint has donated an electric saw used to rescue survivors from accidents to Trowbridge fire brigade.

Her husband, Mike Flint, served as an assistant divisional officer in Trowbridge until he died of cancer two years ago aged 56.

Firefighter Paul Keenan, said: "This is a welcome tribute in memory of a great fireman.

"We understand Julie wanted to donate something that would benefit the fire service and the people we help.

"This electric saw will be put on a fire truck and no doubt save many lives."

Each saw costs nearly £400 and are specially made in the USA.

Julie Flint donated a second electric saw to fire officers in Salisbury.

Her husband was in the fire service from 1971 and represented officers on the Fire Officers' Association and worked for the Institution of Fire Engineers.
