SEMINGTON matchman Dave Johnson took the top honours in the final match of the evening series at Crookwood Lake and smashed the three hour match record for the venue.
Dave took a mixed bag of carp, tench and goldfish weighing 43lb 5oz taken on short pole fished red maggots on an 18 hook fished over groundbait and casters.
Swindon matchman Kevin Bamford took second prize with a mixed bag of tench and goldfish weighing 17 lb 14 oz taken on pole fished red maggots on an 18 hook. He was followed by Tony Gilbert with another tench and goldfish catch weighing 14 lb 14 oz. The overall winner of the series was Devizes star matchman Kevin Rowles. Other placings: 4. Alan Brown Swindon 14 lb 12 oz; 5. Rob Kepner Chippenham 14 lb 7 oz; 6. Kevin Rowles Devizes 11 lb 7 oz. Overall positions: 1. Kevin Rowles Devizes; 2. Kevin Bamford Swindon; 3. Tony Gilbert Swindon.
Roach and skimmer provided the sport for competitors in the Airsprung evening match fished on Friday on the Kennet & Avon Canal at Tithe Barn. Top honours went to Trowbridge matchman David Benger with a mixed catch of roach and skimmers weighing 5 lb 10 oz taken on pole fished red maggots on a 20 hook.
Runner-up prize went to Lee Ovens of Trowbridge with another roach and skimmer catch weighing 4 lb 14 oz also taken on pole fished red maggots on a 20 hook. Similar tactics gave third prize to Kelvin Oliver of Trowbridge with another roach and skimmer catch weighing 3 lb 15 oz 8 dm. Other placings: 4. Dean Bird Bradford 3 lb 8 oz; 5. Richard Stainer Trowbridge 3 lb 7 oz; 6. Tom Ince Trowbridge 3 lb 1 oz 8 dm.
Ivy House Fishery, near Chippenham again produced good sport in the Wednesday Open match with carp feeding well.
Top honours went to Ivy House matchman Kendall Barry with an all carp catch weighing 97 lb 8 oz taken on long pole fished pellets on a 14 hook.
Daiwa BAC matchman Leon Hubbard took second prize with another carp catch weighing 79 lb 2 oz taken on pole fished sweet corn on a 14 hook. He was followed by Chippenham matchman Elick Payne with a carp catch weighing 73 lb 12 oz and Steve Jones of Ivy House with a carp catch of 61 lb 14 oz.
Last week's Wilts Angling Open match fished at Viaduct Fisheries produced good sport yet again. Top honours on the day went to Trowbridge matchman Howard Carpenter with an all carp catch weighing 74 lb 3 oz taken on waggler fished sweet corn on a 14 hook.
Runner-up spot went to Frome matchman Gary Dallimore with another carp catch weighing 63 lb 11 oz taken on pole fished cat meat on a 12 hook.
He was followed by Todber Manor matchman Rob Fletcher with a carp & skimmer catch weighing 54 lb 3 oz taken on pole fished pellet on a 14 hook.
Other placings: 4. Ian Parsons Viaduct 51 lb 5 oz; 5. Dave Bancroft Trowbridge 34 lb 6 oz; 6. Mick Martin Trowbridge 31 lb 8 oz.
