POSTERS have been put up around Cricklade town centre opposing plans to store toxic chemicals at a nearby industrial estate.
The plans, submitted by Thor Developers Ltd, include 10 warehouse units with associated access and car parking at the Chel- worth Industrial Estate.
Under the plans one of the units would be used to store a range of toxic chemicals.
A number of residents have already written to the town council and North Wiltshire District Council voicing concerns and posters with messages such as 'Don't let Cricklade and Leigh become another Sellafield or Chernobyl' have been put up in shop windows.
Town council planning committee chairman Derek Rowland said: "We don't know who has put them up but there was one pasted to the outside of the town council offices. Everybody's concerned about the chemicals but we don't want it to appear as though its NIMBYism.
"From a local council point of view all we can do is say we object to it on the grounds that we do."
The plans are likely to be discussed by North Wiltshire district councillors on September 3.
