PURTON have qualified for the regional finals of the Lincoln Trophy, to be staged this coming Sunday at Wootton Bassett.
In the area final of the National Double Rinks at Clevedon they secured a nail biting one shot victory.
Purton held a comfortable lead for much of their match but Clevedon kept closing the gap and when the rink of Reg and Mark Wadsworth, Max Holland and Ray Sowden dropped a four on the 19th end they went behind for the first time. But they dug in to only lose 18-19.
The rink of Dave Hall, Miles Roberts, Ian Williams and Chris Cheesley were pegged back by the legendary David Bryant but a three on the 20th end brought the overall scores level at 37-37 each.
A tight last end saw Cheesley grab shot and with Bryant failing with his last wood Purton had grabbed a last gasp 38-37 win.
