MOTORISTS continue to face diversions as work to install improved drainage and new kerbs has begun under the Whitehouse Road Bridge in Swindon.
Swindon Council workmen yesterday started work on laying new drainage under the bridge, which connects the Great Western Way with Station Road and Corporation Street.
Civic chiefs say that so far there have been no major hold-ups.
They believe that diversions and the fact that most of the work will be done at night will not seriously affect travel.
The work, which will last until August 31, will mean the bridge is closed between 6pm and 6.30am from Tuesdays to Fridays, between 7pm and 7am on Saturdays and Sundays and until 6.30am Mondays.
Diversions are signposted and take motorists via the Great Western Way, County Road, Fleming Way and Corporation Street and via Corporation Street, Manchester Road, County Road and the Great Western Way.
