Anne Bindon and Beth Millard got their thinking caps on to celebrate the Old Town Victorian Festival.
And their efforts proved worthwhile because they are the winners of the festival's competitions.
Anne Bindon, nine, from Swindon, won £20 for successfully completing the junior word search, which appeared in the festival programme.
She said: "I like doing wordsearches so gave it a go. It was a brilliant surprise to win and I intend to spend the money on holiday in Weymouth."
Beth Millard, 15, from Old Town was triumphant in the test of local history knowledge and took home £25.
She said: "It was an interesting challenge and I used the library to do my research."
The quiz involved identifying the correct location of local historic sites. Beth scored 22 out of 25.
John Venables, 55, from Old Town, has designed the competitions for the past three years.
He presented the winners with their prize money at the Advertiser offices in Victoria Road.
He said: "It is always a pleasure to do and people young and old really enjoyed taking part."
Festival organiser, Harry Bromley, from Old Town, also attended the prize giving.
He said: "The competitions are a great addition to the programme and show the festival's rich variety."
