AS a regular theatre goer I was appalled to read a recent article in your paper which suggested that the Wyvern Theatre was inferior to larger venues such as those in Oxford, Bristol and Reading.
I have always been very happy with the productions at the Wyvern, not only do they provide big name entertainers but also showcase local talent.
To say that the Wyvern could not attract bigger shows and then go on to list some of these shows that have appeared at the other theatres was quite surprising.
I personally have seen at least two of them performed at the Wyvern, namely the fantastic Spirit of the Dance and the hilarious Lee Evans.
Glancing through a recent brochure I have received from the Wyvern I find it hard to see how you can claim it does not attract big names. Does this mean people such as Tony Hadley, Derek Acorah, Patrick Moore and Matt Goss to name a few are not seen as big names?
Unless I am very much mistaken Tony Hadley is one of the most respected names in music having recently appeared in Reborn in the USA and winning it. Derek Acorah has become a big name for his appearances on UK Living's Live Ghost Hunts and Matt Goss was a huge hit in Bros and has recently been very much in the media spotlight.
I see there a couple of big names from television appearing in this year's pantomime. So, while I agree it would be nice to have a slightly larger seating capacity, I cannot agree with your argument about the quality of performers.
