THE vast majority of more than 150 matches in the Hampshire League were washed out on Saturday and with five weeks left to the end of the season, both Cranborne teams look ripe for promotion.
Their first team are second in County Division Four, just behind leaders Mottisfont, and the two sides meet at Cranborne on August 16. Meanwhile, the seconds look set to take the Regional Division Four West Central title.
Ellingham's first team lies in mid table in County Division Two while their second and third teams are out of contention in their divisions.
Hyde, Godshill and Woodgreen are set for another season in Regional Division Two South West, but Alderholt need another win to ensure their survival.
Hyde did manage to play half of their match with the Newtons, Kevin, 72, and Mark, 44, taking them to 187-8 with Kevin Beale claiming 5-27 before the game was abandoned at tea.
Woodgreen had restricted Bashley-Rydal III to 47-3 off 13 overs when the rains came.
Burley lost their chance of honours in the same division when leaders Lyndhurst cancelled their match at Bolton's Bench somewhat prematurely at mid-day, but Burley still have an outside chance of promotion.
Following their only defeat of the season, Burley II have slipped to second place, but are just behind leaders Hythe & Dibden II in Regional Division Four New Forest. The two sides were playing each other on Saturday but the game was abandoned with Burley on 51-1 off 18 overs.
Ringwood still have a faint chance of promotion from Regional Division Three South West but their seconds are struggling in the New Forest section of Regional Division Four.
Alderholt II are also near the foot of the New Forest table.
