MALMESBURY Victoria entertained Westbury United in a pre-season friendly on Sunday.
A Ben Wright header gave Malmesbury a first half lead that was cancelled out by a Westbury equaliser in the second half.
But Malmesbury kept battling until the final whistle and were rewarded for their perseverance with an 85th minute winner from Steve Wodecki.
Chairman Paul Neale said: "It was a good run out for us because Westbury are a very good side."
Malmesbury kick off their Hellenic League Division One West campaign at home to Kidlington on August 16. They finished mid-table last term and will be looking to get off to a good start in a bid to improve on that this season.
Meanwhile, Neale confirmed that the club's plans to install floodlighting at their home ground are expected to be successfully completed with a switch-on in early September.
