WOOTTON Bassett Town found their pre-season form in emphatic fashion last night, thrashing Nationwide League new boys Yeovil Town 5-1.
While the Conference champions' squad had little in common with the one that had beaten Premiership Wolves 24 hours earlier, a strong reserve side had made the trip to Wiltshire.
Bassett took a deserved lead on 17 minutes when Tony Macek's cross was deflected in off a Yeovil defender.
The lead was doubled 10 minutes later when Dave Jones crashed in an unstoppable 25-yard drive.
The visitors quickly pulled one back, but the two-goal advantage was restored on 31 when Sam Reason rounded off a superb Bassett move.
Striker Geoff Swatton made it 4-1 before the break with a simple tap in.
Swatton completed the scoring on 75 minutes, finishing off another fine Bassett build up to celebrate his new permanent deal.
Bassett continue their preparations for the Hellenic Premier Division campaign when Screwfix League Westbury United visit on Saturday.
