INQUEST: AN inquest heard how a 53-year-old woman died after being struck by a car as she crossed a busy dual carriageway in Swindon.
Jean Margaret Hillman, from Winifred Street, Old Town, died on December 19 last year following the accident on Cirencester Way.
PC Mark Hood was the first officer on the scene.
He told the hearing at Swindon Coroners Court how he and a colleague tried to resuscitate Mrs Hillman while waiting for paramedics to attend . He later talked to the driver of the car involved in the accident.
Traffic investigator PC Stephen Cox examined the scene of the accident and estimated that the car which hit Mrs Hillman had been travelling between 16 and 29 miles per hour at the time of the collision, well within the 40 mph limit on the dual carriageway.
He also stated that Mrs Hillman had probably not activated the pelican crossing before crossing the road.
A post mortem concluded that Mrs Hillman had died of brain damage. Wiltshire coroner David Masters recorded a verdict of accidental death.
