LOCAL Swindon clubs will be represented in three of the four major
national championship finals in Worthing later this month.
Wootton Bassett's Neil Smith will compete in the singles, clubmates Richard Buckland, Hedley Bowen and Bob Clews in the triples alongside Westlecot, while Purton contest the fours, all of them playing in tomorrow's county finals at Westlecot.
They booked their places at Worthing when winning their Wiltshire Championship semi-finals which were staged at Chippenham Town.
Smith beat in-form England
international and fellow Wiltshire Middleton Cup skip Graham Shadwell by four shots, while in the other semi-final Keith Hutchens edged out Paul Macdonald.
In the triples Bassett's Buckland, Darren Wilson and Clews beat Marlborough, and in the other Westlecot's powerful trio of Mel Biggs, Neil Hope and Mark Dyer overcame Westinghouse by three shots.
Purton's Miles Roberts, Mark Wadsworth, Chris Cheesley and Ray Sowden won by a similar margin in the fours.
Westlecot's Hope lost out to fellow England junior international Russell Francis in the under 25 final, losing 21-17.
