LORD MacLaurin, the former chairman of the English and Wales Cricket Board, will be in Box on August 10 to officially open the club's new cricket pavilion.

This is part of a day of celebrations organised by Box Cricket Club to help mark the completion of its newly refurbished pavilion.

Lord MacLaurin will be joined by a host of well-known rugby players who will be taking part in a match between a Box Cricket Club XI and a Bath rugby club team.

The refurbishment project has been a real community affair with a number of local tradesmen providing free labour for much of the work.

Additional funding came from the cricket club itself and a lottery grant secured by the village playgroup, who will share the facilities.

Box cricket club chairman John Tooth praised the efforts of everybody involved in the project.

He said: "We are delighted with the new pavilion and are totally indebted to all of the people who have been involved in its improvement.

"Our aim is to be a club at the heart of the community and the help we received in refurbishing the pavilion shows how important the club is to our village.

"I hope that the people of Box will and the surrounding areas will attend the opening ceremony and enjoy the day of celebration."
