LENGTHY roadworks could cause congestion on Melksham housing estates.
Two main routes out of the town centre, which have been congested for months while water and gas works were carried out, are only just beginning to return to normal.
Now gas company Transco is planning to dig up more roads in a £250,000 project which could last 10 weeks.
Town councillor Vic Oakman said: "During the last couple of months residents of Melksham have had to suffer unadulterated chaos with roadworks and I'm not looking forward to having more."
Work will be carried out in Woodrow Road, Craybourne Road, Arden Close, Talbot Close, Pembroke Road, Vincent Close, Forest Road, Wiltshire Crescent and Chalfield Crescent.
Project manager Allan Paul said: "We would like to apologise for any delays and inconvenience this essential safety work may cause. The Woodrow Road area is the largest project and is expected to take about 10 weeks."
Engineers with ID cards will call at houses to gain access for the replacement of service pipes.
To check the validity of the cards call Transco on 0800 111 999.
