VILLAGERS in West Ashton and Yarnbrook fear their calls for a bypass and road improvements have been ignored.
Wiltshire County Council gave the go-ahead for a Westbury bypass last week but failed to agree on plans for a better road scheme north of the town.
A report into the bypass in 2001 by council contractors Ringway Parkman, revealed Yarnbrook could be the weak link in the proposed road scheme.
Pauline Hume, from West Ashton A360 action group, said: "The report revealed 24,000 lorries and cars thunder down this road every day and it will be even worse after the bypass is built.
"The county council say we will have to wait but some local residents have been waiting since the 1920s."
The report also recommended road improvements to the A360 and highlighted the number of fatal crashes on the road.
Jeff Lewis, of Yarnbrook, a member of local residents association RAW, said:
"The county council consistently ignore the view of the people. This is meant to be a democracy.
"Without a bypass or improvements these roads will be clogged even more than they are."
Fleur De Rhe Philipe, county councillor and cabinet member for the environment, said: "Once we get the Westbury bypass out of the way we can turn our attention to Yarnbrook and West Ashton.
"There is not a limitless supply of money but we are aware of the need north of the Westbury."
Wiltshire County Council submitted a plan for a £16 million road last Friday and expect to hear back by the end of the year.
