Consultants believe five zones are the key to the town's future with potential civic and public buildings, entertainment centres, architectural landmarks and transport routes pencilled into initial designs:
1. BREWERY GATEWAY
Covering the former Ushers brewery and bottling plants, the plans are covered by Foinavon's dual application, already approved by district planners. The area will include housing, non-retail units and a restaurant.
2. OLD TOWN
A traditional market square could become the centrepiece of the Old Town zone. Tree-lined seating areas.
3. WATERSIDE
Opening up the River Biss with the waterside zone earmarked for a series of aquatic-features and a tree-lined avenue. Consultants have pinpointed a potential site for the relocation of the Civic Hall with new buildings for a visitor centre and museum, library, and an art and cultural centre, featuring a theatre, music rooms and exhibition space.
4. PARKSIDE
The park will remain the focal point of this zone but botanical gardens, an eco-visitor centre and a media/entertainment centre have been included. The media centre could feature a long-awaited cinema, an internet and cyber caf and creative business units.
5. STATION GATEWAY
Improved transport networks including bus and rail routes are the main focus of the fifth zone. Consultants believe the two forms of public transport can be linked to improve overall access to the town centre. Revamped road junctions at County Way with Bythesea Road, West Ashton Road and Hilperton Road are aimed at improving the arrival points into Trowbridge.
