GAS pipeline operators Transco will begin a £100,000 project to replace ageing gas mains on one of the arterial routes into Trowbridge.
Transco will start work on the eight-week project on Tuesday, replacing two gas mains in Cockhill the county town's main link to Bradford on Avon.
Work was originally started earlier this year but suspended for a cycle path to be built.
The project will involve replacing 200 metres of old metal pipes with tough plastic ones, with service pipes to 53 houses also set to be swapped.
Project manager Allan Paul said: "Where possible we will be using time-saving keyhole techniques.
"We will be using traffic lights throughout but would ask motorists to allow extra time while we carry out this essential work."
