Vigilantism can never be accepted at any level, on any stage, for any reason.
There is a proper and correct legal process designed to ensure justice is served. We must abide by it and accept this is the way things are done.
If everyone began taking the laws into their own hands anarchy would result and society would become a state of lawlessness and chaos.
It is not the first time someone accused of sex offences against children has been targeted by vigilantes, if this indeed turns out to be the case in the Whaddon Farm fire, and it probably won't be the last.
Paedophilia is one of the most emotive crimes, sparking unrivalled feelings of hatred and moral disgust.
But many seem to forget a person is innocent until proven guilty.
It is not for the man in the street to make a judgement or take justice into his own hands.
People deserve to be treated with dignity and understanding while the court process is ongoing.
Too often we see crowds and hate mobs outside courts jostling for the best position to leer and shout threats at people whose guilt has not yet been decided.
This is the face of contemporary street justice in 21st century Britain and it is not a pretty one. We shouldn't condone it, we shouldn't accept it and most of all we shouldn't allow it to continue.
Vigilantism is the scourge of today's society. It must be stamped out, and fast.
